Mein Alice

Mein Alice, she hadt da hardt off pure goldt,
She gafe me gifts, she voudt nefer haff soldt
Da think to me! She verkt at der shtore
Her fadder hadt bought, da clerk on der floor
Vere der sundries vas sought. She voudt verk dere 'til tree,
Ven she'd rush to der dorse, down der schteps to findt me!

Vat it vas daht mein Alice lookt for in me--
To dis day, I can't tell you...vat vas dere to see?
I vas da prince in her eise, I cudt see der reflection!
Ven she lookt, vat she saw, vas to her, da perfection,
Yust to her, not to me, to non udder daht I know--
But she saw't, vere non udder didt, und der luff oferflowt.

Ah, dis gift from mein Alice like her hardt, vas pure goldt!
Und to me, da trecher, der precious heirloom nefer soldt,
To be shart vit der luft ones, dere's to haff too, und holdt!
Ve bote diedt, ven I laydt her in de groundt, dark und coldt!
Can mein Alice be, tho lost to me, aliff thru me? Dis hardt knose
She giffs me, vat non udder giffs, der luff off her daht schtill grose!
