II, Scene I
Too young to know of ladies fair,
too green the gills, this fish, his friend,
yet, faithful he, as few would dare,
a man to stand till battle's end.
To Christian, he'd trust his heart,
pour out what he to none had said,
give voice to all that tore apart,
the heighth, or depth, of love and dread.
When next that friendly face he saw
he would request they join in toast
of fair Roxane and then withdraw
apart, to make his fired riposte
to fates who strove to keep away
the two who'd never had their day.
