Act III, Scene V

A smirking fate had not an exit made
from this a joyous lover's stage.
He smote two hearts. To Cyrano he paid
rejection's coin, and joined on Christian's page
the two most dear in life, best friend, true love.
Would you say fate a cruel blow thus paid?
Not Cyrano! United, like hand in glove,
that pair begat a family who made
the third, a god-papa. Love doesn't possess,
its object lost, or secure, unstolen!
Love wanes not, having wooed without success
one who chose another. To embolden
that ardor he gave in full flood, the two,
impassioned fervor mortals can't imbue.

--Cyrano
